Internships & Cadetships

Polytechnics and Institutes of Technology have intern students available to work in industry as a formal part of their course of study. Internship and cadetship programmes link business knowledge and education, giving students an opportunity to apply the skills gained through study to solve ‘real-world’ business problems.

An internship or cadetship is a three-way partnership between the student, your business and the polytechnic or institute of technology. As well as providing industry experience for a student who had nearly completed their qualification, an internship provides a myriad of benefits for your organisation.

Students can undertake challenging and valuable work, which is usually overseen by an academic supervisor.  An intern can take on a project that will provide a better understanding of some aspect of your business or help develop processes to better manage your business

An internship is also a potential source of staff recruitment. The programme allows employers to evaluate potential graduate employees over an extended period, significantly reducing recruitment and training costs.

Intern and co-op students provide an infusion of bright, enthusiastic people who bring new ideas and viewpoints to the organisation. Businesses that regularly offer internships are often seen as progressive, innovative and forward thinking, creating an enhanced corporate profile.
